Your dog may already be feeling the effects of a quieter home, with family members returning to work home and to school. The hustle and bustle of the summer holidays meant more people and a busier routine for you (and your dog). Just as your dog is getting used to quieter times and we approach the end of the year, Halloween, Christmas and New Year could bring more people and noise which can be an unsettling change for your pooch.
How can you help your dog stay calm during busier times?
- A safe space: Give your dog an area that they associate with calm, away from noise.
- Shut out fireworks: They may be fun for you, but the loud bangs and flashes can be distressing for dogs. Always walk your dog before dark and ensure that they are in a place that they consider safe, with their favourite toys and preferably you by their side.
