We are what we eat. Its the same for your dog.

Feeding your dog with cooked food using, fresh healthy ingredients is a  movement that’s growing at a rapid pace. We’re all becoming more aware of how our own diets will impact our health, and pet owners are becoming more discerning about what goes into their dog’s diet. Owners want to know that what they choose to put in their dog’s bowl is boosting their health and so are taking more interest in how dog diets are created.

Monty’s Larder is fully behind the mission to feed our dogs better by providing dog owners with a range of freshly cooked, grain free meals using grass fed West Country beef and lamb, sustainable fish and locally sourced fresh vegetables, full of essential, healthy amino and fatty acids, and high in Omega 3.

Owners are, quite rightly, asking more questions about how canine diets are made and there are two main areas of focus: the quality of the ingredients, and how they’re prepared.

Certain methods of cooking dog foods can actually destroy much of the nutritional value of the ingredients. Extreme temperatures may kill bacteria to ensure it is safe but it can take much of the goodness with it, so even if quality ingredients are being used, your dog won’t get the benefit.

Of course, the method doesn’t matter if the quality of ingredients is low! Good quality foods don’t just go into the bowl, they feed our dogs’ bodies to perform and repair at their optimum. Wholesome nutrition serves health.

Monty’s Larder uses wholesome, natural ingredients that are freshly cooked. The benefits of moving from over-processed food to a whole diet has tangible benefits – changes you’ll actually notice:

     1. You will know what your dog is eating

     2. Dogs will be better, faster, stronger

     3. Better digestion for dogs

     4. Better overall condition, better skin, brighter coats

     5. Improves lifespan

You will know what your dog is eating

Feeding freshly cooked food with ingredients that you can actually see in the bowl means that you no longer need to speculate what you are actually feeding your dog.

You don’t need to guess what’s in a Monty’s Larder meal. You can see it, smell it, and taste it. Kibble, and what goes into it, isn’t as transparent. You’ll need to dig into the pet food label and likely learn some new terms. Once you find what is in the food, you might discover nasty additives that make the food look more attractive in terms of its colour and will give it an extended shelf life.

Better, faster, stronger

How many times have you heard people say that they have had more energy simply by changing to a healthier diet? Eating a variety of nutritious foods, vegetables, nuts, seeds, and lean protein that is not full of bad fat, will support and improve your overall health. The same applies to dogs. Giving your dog a diet of freshly cooked food will help to build strong muscles and promote better health.

Food that is essentially human grade with high quality ingredients will build strong immunity and increase your dog’s energy and vitality. That means you should see an improved range of motion and increased playfulness after switching to a fresh diet. The protein and natural antioxidants found in high-quality, fresh food also helps fight ailments and illness.

Dogs can survive on low grade food, much like us humans would survive if we just ate microwave meals, but why would you? As longer term, our dogs (and ourselves) will be healthier if we have a better diet.

Better digestion

Some commercial dog foods have been bulked up with fillers that are hard for your dog to digest. A dog’s digestive system is not supposed to process a high amount of fillers. Simply, they are expelled by your dog as rather smelly poo. By changing to freshly cooked food full of natural ingredients, you will be helping your dog to digest far better. And you’ll notice when you pick up after them!

Better overall condition, better skin, brighter coats

Many dogs suffer from skin issues like itching, rashes, and dry coats. While your dog may have an allergy of some sort, skin problems can be caused by the large amounts of fillers found in processed dog food.

By feeding your dog with freshly cooked meals from Monty’s Larder that uses grass fed meat and fresh vegetables full of essential fatty acids and Omega 3, your dog’s coat will be better hydrated, leaving your dog looking healthier all round.

Improves lifespan

It has been said that a dog that is not overweight and that is more active as a result of having a balanced, more natural diet, will have a longer lifespan. There is less inflammation in the guts, the body is not working as hard to process the food, and the dog performs better, which likely makes them happier. All the factors can help extend your dog’s life and live healthier.

Monty’s Larder provides freshly cooked, grain free meals using grass fed, ethically reared meat from sustainable farms. Cooked like you would at home.
