Issue Summary

What makes your dog happy? For my dog, nothing beats a bit of fuss and attention or, failing that, food in any shape or form. Bertie is one of the few dogs I know who will go through his entire trick repertoire at the prospect of earning a cabbage leaf! But one dog’s idea of happiness isn’t necessarily another’s; the key is knowing your individual dog, and building the sort of relationship that enables you to understand his needs.

Read our feature on page 10 this month — and our experts’ tips — and it might just give you a few new ideas on how to put a smile on his face and a wag in his tail!

On the subject of building relationships, our feature on page 16 focuses on three dog lovers and their pets who’ve forged really strong bonds, despite — and maybe, in part, because of — the challenges of dog ownership. If you’re looking for a bit of inspiration and encouragement, it’s a great read.

Finally, as the weather gets colder and gloomier, it’s time to think of what lies ahead and prepare yourself for wrapping up warm, and walking in the dark. We’ve got lots of useful advice and tips on page 40 this issue.

Until next month,

Sarah Wright, Editor
