There is something for everyone in The New Forest, whether you're looking to relax, explore or just enjoy, it's the ideal location.
The New Forest National Park is a unique landscape of ancient woodland, heather-covered heath, wide lawns, boggy mires, gentle farmland, coastal saltmarsh and mudflats and picturesque villages. The forest was once the royal hunting ground of William the Conqueror. It is home to 193,000 acres of unspoilt heath and ancient woodland.
Today the area is a lively, working landscape with many secrets to discover. There are many cicular and linear walks to be found along the 143 miles of tracks which makes the area easily accessible on foot. You’ll also fine plenty of picnic sites and toilet facilities. Guided walks are also available. You can also enjoy the forest by bike; many of the centres around the forest now have 'muttmobiles' or dog cabs available to hire for the day so you and your dog can explore the countryside together.
Ashurst, Lyndhurst and Lymington have many quaint teas rooms, antique, gift and craft shops. The New Forest Centre at Lyndhurst is a great place to start you holiday. These villages make an ideal starting and finishing point for your walks.
