Vet Roberta Baxter offers some advice to a reader who's dog has drops of blood in their wee...
(Q) How long is the menstrual period of dogs? My three-year-old Schnauzer X Maltese has drops of blood in her wee. Is this normal or is it time to visit the vet?
(A) Vet Roberta Baxter says: Blood in/on the urine normally indicates a bladder or kidney problem, and should definitely be checked out by your vet.
During a season blood is dripped all the time, and may be seen on bedding and flooring; however it is rarely seen in the urine. Blood associated with urine can indicate a urinary infection, or it may be associated with bladder stones or other urinary disease.

It would be a good idea to book a prompt appointment with your vet, and take a urine sample with you when you go.
