Chow Chow Breed Profile
Chow Chow Breed Profile
He was once regarded as a food source although now this proud breed is in general a companion and makes an excellent guard dog. The breed comes in two varieties, smooth and rough coated, the rough coat being the more common.
Chow Chow Character
The chow is naturally aloof and can also be quite stubborn. They can be bad tempered but breeders believe that with early socialization and proper training this problem is easily avoided. The chow may not be ideal as a family pet as they tend to become attached to one person and can be snappy towards others, especially if they feel they are their owner is threatened. They like the outdoors and would be quite happy left to their own devices in the garden.

Chow Chow Health
Hip Dysplasia is a known problem in the breed. They are also prone to Bloat; their weight should be carefully monitored to avoid obesity.
