6 resolutions to ensure you and your dog have the best year yet!

1. Join a club
Why not do something different this year and join a club such as a walking meet, this makes walking your dog more exciting for you both and gives the opportunity for your dog to interact with new friends and you can chat to different owners. Websites such as Meet Up or Ramblers which will allow you to find a group in your local area. If you've recently got a puppy then this will be perfect to improve your puppy's socialisation.
2. Get fit together
If you've decided that your resolution this year is to get fit then why not get your furry-friend involved too. Maybe he's had a few too many treats this year and needs to shed some pounds as well. There are lots of activities you can do together such as canicross, doga, swimming or hiking. Exercising with your dog not only makes it more fun but it can also gives you more motivation to do it and it'll get his tail wagging too!
3. Try a new canine sport
Have you ever fancied your dogs chances at agility, flyball, canine freestyle or obedience but haven't yet had the chance to have a go, then make 2017 your year to shine. Your dog may have a hidden talent you never knew about and could soon be making his Crufts debut.
4. Get a new companion
Maybe 2017 is the year you've decided to take on a new companion. Perhaps you're considering a rescue dog or thinking about getting a specific breed of puppy, either way it is important to take the time to research and make sure you choose the right dog. If you're getting a puppy from a breeder then it's advisable that you get in touch with them and talk about the breed first to decide whether it is suitable. If you're looking to adopt a dog then visit the centre and explain your situation to the staff and they'll be able to advise on dogs that they think would fit with your lifestyle.
5. Give him a pamper session
What better way to start the year than to treat your pet and give him a pamper. Maybe book him in for an appointment at the groomers or give him a bath and a good groom yourself, he'll be smelling of roses before you know it! Just make sure you don't wash your dog when it's really cold and be sure to use warm water!
6. Improve his commands
If you feel your dog needs to improve on his training then start the year as you mean to go on and set aside some time to work on specific commands that have been causing a problem. If you're finding yourself hoarse most of the time then it might be worth improving his recall! Whatever it is, set yourself a training goal for 2017 and by the end of the year, you'll have it down to a tee.
