The 'grey ghost' is a versatile dog that can just about do anything it sets its mind on. Having said that, they are boisterous, cheeky, and not as directly obedient as other gundogs. The right training and socialization is paramount.

This is really a dog that relies on your training and socialization. Giving the right methods, he is obedient, loyal, loving member of the family. However, those stunning looks of his can attract owners who do not realize how much time he'll require - if you put the effort in you'll have a well-behaved protector and hard worker. The Breed Standard describes them as "fearless, friendly, protective, obedient and alert".

The Breed Standard stipulates height at withers for dogs 61-69cm, bitches 56-64cm.

 Generally a healthy breed. Hip Dysplasia can occur as in all large breeds. Ear infections can be avoided by regular cleaning.

The Weimaraner has a strong hunting instinct, so socialization is key. Watch out for small animals and always be confident your dog will recall back to you before letting off the lead.
