The Pyrenean Sheepdog, also known as the Berger des Pyrenees, is seen in two varieties, the longhaired and the smooth-muzzled. This breed, the smallest of the native French sheep dogs, has a long history of working in the south of France and has been bred for its excellent endurance and tremendous stamina. They also possess a highly attuned natural guarding instinct.
Pyrenean Sheepdog Character
Hard working and highly intelligent. The Pyrenean will form a strong attachment to their master and will enjoy working closely with a clear defined aim. Due to their working history they have retained a sense of independence yet are constantly aware of their situation and ready to react.
Pyrenean Sheepdog Size
The Pyrenean Sheepdog should measure between 40-48cm, bitches slightly less at 38-46cm
Pyrenean Sheepdog Health
There are no known major conditions to be aware of with the Pyrenean Sheepdog although as with all energetic breeds try to limit exercise as a puppy to avoid aggravating any muscular or joint complaints.
Pyrenean Sheepdog Special Care
A hardy breed requiring little special attention. All one really needs to be aware of is their need for space and stimulation to keep them happy.
